OUR MISSION

Empowering Today's Potential, Discovering Tomorrow's Solutions

COUHR provides a platform for students to delve into new experiences and pursue scientific discoveries and cutting edge research topics from which their exposure would be otherwise limited. This provides them the best opportunity to bring forth new talents and skills directly relating to research involvement, but also those that will serve to further benefit in any and all academic and professional situations. We aim to encourage this spread of self discovery, and facilitate it in numerous ways: through mentorship, seminars, practical experience and annual research symposiums.

At COUHR, pairing keen students with accomplished and motivational research professionals provides them with an impactful and supportive network, through which we aspire to foster intrapersonal skills and self confidence essential for success. By imparting this knowledge and experience at such a critical point, we hope to enhance the will to enact change.
Additionally, our goal is to build a community centered around youth empowerment, collaboration and inquiry, from which leaders  will grow into role models and advocates for subsequent generations.

EXPLORE.

COUHR provides a collaborative and supportive environment that encourages undergraduate to pursue opportunities and paths, without the impediment of barriers that may exist within current society. Through commitment to providing accessible opportunities and constant exposure to distinguished individuals within fields of interest, COUHR is a platform that supports the emergence of young leaders, and allows them to reach their full potential.

Our Motive

Research experience as an undergraduate student is not only critical for admission to higher-level academic programs, but essential for development of a passion for science and discovery in itself. It develops self efficacy, broadens career prospects and enriches scholarly and community contribution for those that are exposed to it.

However, youth of certain communities face a multitude of barriers particularly relating to the pursuit of research opportunities; some of which include  transportation, language barriers, lack of knowledge, and religious/cultural constraint.

Enabling keen students from these communities to act as leaders and caregivers for their respective populations would allow for these underrepresented communities to be treated in a comfortable manner in the future.

Fostering a generation of healthcare researchers would also empower the members of these underrepresented populations to become more open and engaged in healthcare, as they would have faith in the the new youth leaders of their respective communities. This would result in their voices being  heard and expressed through peer-reviewed journals and potential health policy related decision making.

Our Goals

We aspire to enable students from historically underrepresented groups throughout Canadian universities with a chance to partake in health and medical research. Providing opportunities to motivated youth to delve into the scientific community will overcome a multitude of barriers, bringing a greater diversity of thought, innovation and experience that may not have seemed accessible or attainable before.
